The One That Got Away

The Excentric World investigative team takes a look at a recent discovery off the coast of Maryland that could rock the halls of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Mermaid folklore began with the appearance of the Assyrian goddess Atargatis, who transforms herself into a mermaid out of shame for accidentally killing her human lover. Reported sightings of mermaids have been an integral part of tall tales of the deep waters since mankind began to sail the seven seas. Even Christopher Columbus, the wayward explorer who, for some unknown reason, is celebrated in the United States, claimed to have spotted mermaids…

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at the spate of musicals slated for release by Hollywood in 2015. A remake of the classic Singin’ In The Rain and a musical version of Psycho and a reunion of Olivia Newton John and John Travolta in a Grease sequel, Lubricant, to name just a few. Perhaps the most controversial screen play being written for the cinema is a star-studded musical, The Marshall and the Grey Cardinal. The Marshall is said to be Kim Jung-un and the Grey Cardinal, Vladimir Putin. The two world leaders are placed shirtless on a deserted…

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at the ramifications of the recent legalization of growing pot in some states of the United States and some isolated cities around the world. Not impressed by the news, this group of pot growers has been gathering in their courtyard as long as they can remember. While they have yet to dry and smoke any of their many horticultural products, they all seem suspiciously mellow. Perhaps the pot plants they grow emit a euphoric pheromone causing one to be naturally laid back, but this group of growers can sit and stare at…

Thrill Seeking Big Picture

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at thrill seekers and the risks they are willing to take to get that rush. This spirited diver took to the seas to encounter great white sharks up close and personal. Some adrenaline junkies take to tall buildings and leap to the streets below with small parachutes. Others dive off cliffs with wing-like suits and soar like birds in the drafts. There are bungee jumpers, sky divers, and more. While it would appear most extreme excursions involve the sky, the man pictured here is among the few that delve into the deep…

They’re Here . . .

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at new forms extraterrestrial visitors may be embodying. As little to no evidence has emerged among all the hoopla that alines are residing on planet Earth, proponents of claims that stellar travelers have settled here have shifted from little green or gray human-like forms to that of domestic animals. Proof is offered in this photograph captured by a believer that his newly adopted canine is, in fact, a vessel for a Pleiadian Star System Inter-stellar Commander. His “dog” Atlantis, is shown here conducting a mind meld with his daughter, Lemuria, who seems…

No More Rush to Judgement

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at the United State 113th Congress. Our staff began with looking at their current status. Congress is on vacation – AGAIN. They were in session 118 days through September. They voted on one or two items, held a few repetitive hearings on senseless topics and left for another vacation for more than a month after just returning from nearly a month off. Keeping in mind Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming and there are only 365 days in a year, they will end up showing up for less than half a year. The…

Do Blondes Really Have More Fun?

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at adages and puts them to the Myth or Fact Test. We are more thorough than the typical tests done by typical testers. Take the adage that blondes have more fun. It must first be accepted that most blondes achieve their hair color from a bottle. It is usually easy to detect, as there are other body parts with hair that are of natural origin – like the eyebrows. In order to discover whether or not there is more fun had by natural blondes, our staff members went as far back as…

Someone Please Send Me A Sign . . .

Any wonder people are confused when it comes to trusting signs? Whether it’s placed by a state, federal or local agency, it is a job often going to the lowest bidder and rarely supervised by the group writing the check. Rather than remove the red sign pictured below, the town who had a change of council that decided it was wrong to prohibit pets from being allowed in front of their offices, instead submitted a new contract for a sign permitting pets as long as they were leashed. The road sign is a bit more confusing. While directing drivers to…

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at yet another online dating site. Feeling left out, these experienced women are establishing a start-up company to help hook up seniors. Non-discriminating, these gals say the site is open to all creeds, races, ages and sexual orientation. Dating sites already exist for African Americans, Christians, Boomers, serious daters, casual daters, cheaters, farmers, even professionals (whatever that means). However, until now, no one has targeted the long-lived – octogenarians on up – Oldsters.com. If the date ends up with someone spending the night, bed rails can be deployed to prevent accidents requiring…

The Sedona Excentric Task Force takes a look at UFOs and the claims of sightings by ordinary people living in and near Sedona, AZ.. Pictured left is Bell Rock, a well known landmark in the Village of Oak Creek some seven miles south of Sedona. For decades, Bell Rock has been believed to be some sort of refueling station for visiting  extraterrestrial vessels. Some believe Bell Rock has like a garage underground to repair UFOs. Denny Mandeville, the owner of Canyon Automotive in Sedona, doubts the claims. “We have state of the art equipment here and our training is as…

First Do No Harm?

The Sedona Excentric investigative team looks into the growing obsession people are having with enhancing their appearance.  While the gentleman pictured on the right may seem to have been a bit excessive with his piercings, the lady pictured on the left may have gone a bit too far while seeking to augment her bust line. As far as the potential harm they may be bringing to themselves with these attempts to garner attention. the man could have his entire face ripped off if he walked under an industrial magnet or, suffer from radiation exposure if he ever needed dental x-rays….

In 1955, they had sold over 1 million

A new study on businesses franchises that celebrated over 50 years in business. In that time, McDonald’s has grown into a world-wide empire. In January 2012, the company announced revenue for 2011 reached an all-time high of $27 billion, and that 2400 restaurants would be updated and 1300 new ones opened worldwide. While their burgers remain a low-cost item on their menu, many of their employees still struggle to put food on their tables. Sadly, in today’s economy, slinging burgers is longer just a kid’s job. Hell, According to a Chemical Engineering Student

The following is a real question given on a University of Arizona chemistry midterm examination, and an actual answer turned in by a student. Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic(absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One Student however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they…
