How Did You Ho, Ho Ho?

The Sedona Excentric investigative team looks into the recent public debate on the race or skin color of the popular Christmas Holiday figure known as Sant Claus, a.k.a. Kris Kringle, St. Nicholas and Father Christmas. Here’s a description attributed to someone who made an offering to Wikipedia, “Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, joyous, white-bearded man – sometimes with spectacles – wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white – cuffed red trousers, and black leather belt and boots and carries a bag full of gifts for children.

” Nowhere in there was a mention of race or color of skin. While, the figure we know as Santa today may have originated from a combination of Christian Dutch and Germanic Pagans merged with British folklore, the appearance of such a figure in those times to those children most likely would have been pale. However, once the colorfully clad character crossed the waters to bestow presents upon children of every race and skin tone, odds are he would take on the physical characteristics of the land.

Just imagine how scared a Zulu child would have been to see a jolly old white guy sliding down the smoke chute of their teepee or the impact of a brother on the roof of a Scandanavian kid. Santa must be all shapes, sizes and colors for all children. So, to all a good night.
